Fruit flies appear more often with the warm weather. For that reason, it’s important to take action as soon as you see the very first fruit fly, summer is coming soon!

First things first, you will want to start with a good, old-fashioned cleaning followed by these recommendations to keep these tiny insects away.

1. Lure flies into a DIY trap

Create a trap by placing apple cider vinegar in a bowl or glass and add a dash of dishwashing liquid. This attracts the flies to the liquid and effectively drowns them.

TIP: If you don’t have any vinegar, you can replace it with beer or even wine.

2. Keep flowers and herbs

Some herbs and flowers such as bay leaves, lavender and basil can be planted both in your kitchen and outside – keeping the flies away.

TIP: These herbs can be used for cooking as well, a total win-win.

3. Commercial trap

These are usually non-toxic and very effective. The fruit flies get attracted by the scent and held by the glue-coated inside of the trap.
